Jain Sabudana Vada with Raw Banana
25 mins prepServes 4
This recipe for Sabudana Vada uses raw banana instead of potatoes, making it suitable for the Jain diet. It's a delicious and traditional Indian appetizer or snack.
1. Wash Sabudana thoroughly. Soak the washed Sabudana overnight or for at least 6 hours.
2. Boil the raw banana in a pressure cooker for about 2 whistles (use 2 whistles for a small pressure cooker, 1 whistle for a large one). Once cooked, grate or mash the banana.
3. In a mixing bowl, combine all the listed ingredients (soaked Sabudana, mashed banana, coriander, peanuts, ginger, chillies, salt, cumin powder, black pepper powder, and cumin seeds). Mix well to bind a dough-like consistency.
4. Take small portions of the dough, form uniform balls, and then flatten them using your hands into desired shapes (as shown in the video).
5. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Carefully place the flattened vadas into the hot oil and fry until they turn golden brown on all sides.
6. Transfer the fried vadas onto a kitchen paper towel to drain excess oil.
7. Enjoy your Jain Sabudana Vada!
